IT’S NOT CANCER

IT’S NF.

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a group of genetic conditions that cause tumours to grow on nerves throughout the body. These tumours can appear anywhere and affect people in very different ways— from blindness, deafness, and chronic pain to learning challenges, disfigurement, and even cancer.

Anyone can be born with NF. It affects people of all races, genders, and ethnicities.

HOW COMMON IS NF?
NF is one of the most common genetic neurological conditions, affecting about 1 in
every 2,000 births—that’s around 4 million people worldwide.

IS THERE A CURE?
There is no cure yet, but there is hope.

A breakthrough drug called Koselugo has been approved for use in Canada to help children with inoperable tumours caused by NF1. With continued support, we can fuel more research, treatment options, and ultimately, a cure.

WE ARE THE TUMOUR FOUNDATION OF BC
Since 1984, the Tumour Foundation of BC (formerly the BCNF) has been the leading voice for the NF community in Canada. We are a small and passionate charity making a big impact through:

    • Advocacy for better care and treatments
    • Awareness and education for the public and healthcare providers
    • Peer support groups and 1:1 outreach
    • An annual NF symposium and patient education resources
    • Youth scholarships

Our mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals affected by NF
across British Columbia.
